TopoType System
TopoType System / Created in 2007 during my studies in fine art school in Cambrai. I decided to read the city as a labyrinth. A perfect labyrinth meets two conditions: it is connected and acyclic. I chose to create a typeface based on the topology of a map while adhering to the rules of a perfect labyrinth.
For this project, I selected the Place d’Italie (like i did for 48Nord2Est project) neighborhood in Paris’s 13th arrondissement. On the map, where others might read street names, I read letters and then words; each character represents a walk. My aim is to draw a parallel between language and wandering through a labyrinth.
